Oh not again Nigerian police......Police shoot sales girl dead, injure 3 others

Shot girl
A 20-year old sales girl identified simply as Lucy, was on Friday shot dead by policemen in the Apo area of Abuja.
The girl was hit in the chest by bullets fired into a photography shop where she worked as a sales girl.
Three other people sustained gunshot injuries when policemen from the FCT Police Command fired bullets indiscriminately in an attempt to enforce the demolition order of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council.
The policemen had stormed the area around 7 am with officials of Development Control Department, who had come to demolish illegal structures.
But residents and indigenes, who felt that the government had no right to demolish their houses when they were yet to be resettled, resisted the operation.
They claimed that the case was still in court and that their leaders had advised them to continue to live in the area pending the determination of the suit.
As the policemen shot indiscriminately to control the residents, bullets penetrated into one of the shops and Lucy was hit in the chest. She was rushed to Garki Hospital, but she was confirmed dead on arrival. Her body has been deposited in the mortuary.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu, met the House of Representatives representing AMAC/Bwari constituency of the FCT, Zephaniah Jisalo, at the hospital when he visited.
Inalegwu, who was in tears, assured the lawmaker that the case would be investigated.
“We are not sure what took our men there or what led to the shooting, it’s still a matter for investigation,” he said.
Emeka Ani, owner of the photo shop, where the deceased worked, said that his sales boy also sustained gunshot injuries during the incident.
He said, “From morning, the police surrounded our area. They said they came for demolition. All of a sudden, they started shooting sporadically. They shot into my shop and killed my sales girl. My boy also sustained injuries. Lucy has been with me for about one month. Her sister brought her for me from Cross River.”
The National Coordinator, Greater Gbyagi Initiative, Mr. Gimba Baiza, described the incident as wicked.
When will those things stop?

Trader on revenge mission drugs, robs female victims

Samson Igwe
Since 2010, a dealer in electronic equipment, Samson Igwe, had preyed on unsuspecting women in Lagos and Port Harcourt. He would lure his victims from his hotel room and drug them with Valium 5 before robbing them of their possessions.
Recalling the circumstances that led him to commit crime, Igwe said, “I am an electronics trader based in Accra. I buy electronic goods from Alaba and take them to Accra for sale. That is what I really do for a living. I didn’t start off my life by robbing women; that is not how I make my money. I simply did it for revenge because when I came back to Nigeria in 2010, a lady I had picked up in a club did the same thing to me.

Sanusi tells Reps to leave him alone

SLS says he is most summoned CBN governor in history
Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, says he is the most “summoned” governor of the bank in Nigeria’s history.
Sanusi spoke on Wednesday in response to a House of Representatives query about his penchant for dismissing summons from the National Assembly.
He said lawmakers were consistently unmindful of his schedules and rated himself as the most summoned CBN governor in history.
“I don't think there has been any CBN Governor that has been brought here (the National Assembly) as much as me,” Sanusi told the committees on Finance, Legislative Budget and Research, National Planning and Aids, Loans and Debt Management.
He added, “I have even offered to be moved, or open my annex office here. Nobody ask me how my itineraries are before inviting me.”
The CBN governor had been asked by the Chairman of the House Committee on Legislative Budget and Research, Opeyemi Bamidele, why he refused to respond to previous invitations to appear before the committees.
Sanusi denied having any rift with the National Assembly.
On the Medium Term Expenditure Framework before the National Assembly, the CBN governor kicked against suggestions by members of the House of Representatives that the proposed crude oil benchmark of 75 dollar a barrel be reviewed upward in the 2013 budget.
Sanusi said what should be looked at was how to increase crude oil production, and exploring other alternatives, adding that "even if you increase the benchmark to 200 dollar per barrel and the price is 75 dollar, it would not amount to increase in revenue."

US Embassy And Discrimination Against Nigeria Pregnant Women

The United States’ embassy in Nigeria seems to have perfected the art of denying well-meaning and legitimate non-immigrant Nigerian mothers visa for reasons best known to it. At the end of visa interview sessions, what one hears is, ‘’You are not qualified at this time’’! Women of child-bearing age are asked questions such as: Are you pregnant at this time? How many children do you have? Do you plan to have more children? And if the response to any of these questions is in the affirmative, then the next set of questions may be: Do you plan to have the baby in America? Can you afford to pay the medical bills? You are probably asked to show evidence and even after showing evidence you are told
